Miri - Mulu,  Travel

Farewell Mulu. It’s been very amazing! And now, it’s time to wrap up Miri..

Farewell Mulu. Before parting ways, we decided to take one last stroll along the empty road in Mulu to visit the beautiful church near the national park. Of course, we will not miss the opportunity to bring both the bears out along with us!

Our plan for the morning is to walk for approximately 2km to see the beautiful church near the national park. Unfortunately, the morning mist covered the beautiful mountains behind the church no longer visible in the background.

Miri – Free and Easy

Our last 2 days in Miri basically is chilling around, taking our time to relax and unwind. Here are some of the highlights we do for our remaining time in Miri:

Day 4:

The rain came pouring down while we’re having laksa at 63 Cafe Sarawak. Fret not, we’re still very determined to run across the street for some nasi lemak at Nagaliar to get our cravings fixed.

63 Cafe Sarawak Laksa

In order to not fill our stomach with too much food, we ordered one Sarawak laksa to share. For a person who does not like laksa that much due to the strong fishy smell, I would say this laksa tastes really good! The fishy smell is not overpowering with a sweet taste really makes us want to order second bowl! Thankfully, we did not do that because we are saving our stomach for the next food adventure! 🤣

Nagaliar Nasi Lemak

The queue at Nagaliar was long and the service speed is moderate. However, you will notice that most of the local patrons there “tapao” (pack) quite a lot packet of nasi lemak together with fried chicken.

The nasi lemak plate came with a piece of chicken of your choice, fried egg, salted fish and the usual peanuts, sambal and cucumber to complete the dish.

Though the fried chicken (We highly recommend the drumstick!) is the highlight of the dish, while eaten together with nasi lemak, it complements each other very well and we like it a lot! There is option to buy the fried chicken only, though we find it’s a little bit salty to our palate if we did not mix it with rice.

88 New Tanjung Restaurant

Dinner at 88 New Tanjung Seafood. Though it is not our first choice of restaurant to dine in, the staffs and waitress were very friendly and the serving of the dishes is quite fast with reasonable pricing.

The only disappointing part dining in this restaurant is the limited choice for dishes. Most of the dishes we wanted to order is either sold out or not enough to cater for 2 tables. Probably our usual timing for dinner in KL is quite late as compared to Miri, so it is recommended to come a little early for dinner there between 5.30pm – 6.30pm to avoid the above from happening.

Day 5:

Day 5 marks the end of our stay at Miri. Before our flight back to KL, we decided to go for one last stroll around Miri town to try out the recommended 2185 Sau Pau Cafe for their coconut bun and others, visit the old man street and end our tour at the Miri Handicraft Centre before heading back to the hotel.

Miri Handicraft Centre

Though it was a relatively short free and easy tour around Miri, the history of the oil wells (Read more here: https://thetwopinkbears.com/miri-day-one/), culture, handmade handicrafts is really something that we can learn and appreciate. Though we do hope the handmade handicraft culture will continue to stay on for many generations to come.

Goodbye Miri

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our friend June, Lam, Doris and Erny for making this trip possible! It was a very pleasant trip planned for the group, the much needed getaway trip away from the hustle and bustle city life, a trip that we put down our responsibility, slow down, and enjoy the process during our stay in Miri and Mulu.

Lastly, this will never be our last trip as we plan to visit again in the near future! Probably next round of visit is to add hiking up the famous Mulu Pinnacles in the list? If I ever get back into shape and have the courage to do so?🤣
