The Only Breakfast Shop Available In The Mall, Turns Out To Be Great!

The only breakfast shop available in the mall, turns out to be a great one!

It was early in the morning, many shops were not open for business yet. While waiting, we decided to have breakfast first.

The only nearest breakfast shop that we see available at that time was the one and only Oriental Kopitiam, which already started operating with quite a huge crowd with some waiting in line to get a seat.

Breakfast Shop, Oriental Kopitiam

While waiting in line, we were presented with all sorts of signature products displaying in front of the shop to entice the crowd to have a look see, and then buy! However, as this was our first time, we do not buy anything that interest us at that moment.

The food and drinks we ordered..

Signature Egg Tarts

In our opinion, it is very hard to find the best egg tarts in Malaysia nowadays. However, this is one of the best signature egg tarts we have ever tasted. Though not the best as we have been spoiled by Macau tart from Hong Kong, but it is the closest we have ever tried!

Verdict: 9/10! The signature egg tart is so good, we brought more home!

Polo Buns

In both our minds, polo buns when it is piping hot, paired with slices of thick butter, slowly melting in the insides of the bun, crispy crust on the outside, and into the mouth… That was the best feeling ever! Though again similar with egg tarts, it was difficult for us to find the nicest polo buns available in Malaysia.

For this polo bun, it was not the best in town, but it is still way better than any other Hong Kong Kopitiam out there that claims to serve the best polo bun in town.

Verdict: 7/10! The polo bun was good, but it did not wowed us like the signature egg tarts above.

Fried Chicken Mee Siam

Ordered this because see quite a lot of patrons ordered, so got the feeling it should be nice. I always like the benedict egg yolk to be a perfect, runny yolk. However, for this mee siam, it turns out the egg was slightly cooked and does not have the runny yolk flowing through the mee siam which was disappointing.

Overall, the mee siam tasted great and have a spicy kick on the after taste. Add lime onto the mee siam to elevate the flavor more. The fried chicken was well marinated, packed with tons of flavors and fried to perfection.

Though it tasted great, this dish is not recommended for those who can’t tolerate spicy food as the spice will really, really bite on the after taste.

Verdict: 7/10! Overall is a nice breakfast dish, the only disappointing part was the expectation for the egg benedict which kinda ruins the overall experience of the food.

Penang Prawn Mee

According to le wife, though the portion is considerably reasonable with 2 huge prawns and generous filling, the taste is just normal for her.

Verdict: 6/10! Overall is an alright dish which le wife felt that it could be had in kopitiam outside at an affordable price.

Tea and Oriental Coffee

The signature oriental coffee tasted really good! The coffee has the “gao” taste which I liked it a lot. However, for the tea, it was just alright.

Verdict: 8/10! For the Oriental Coffee. 6/10! For the tea.

Our Takeaways?

Overall, Oriental Kopitiam experience was great! The food serving was fast, every single workers in there are moving at a very fast pace trying their best to serve customer to the best of their ability. Kudos to them for this department.

Lastly, this kopitiam is a hit for me and a miss for le wife. But we both do agree that the signature egg tarts tasted really, really good! It was so good that we actually queue in a long line after our meal waiting patiently to get our hands on more tarts to share with the family and to ourselves 🤪
