The Third Day.. Part Two of more Adventures in Mulu!

The third day, our main itinerary for the day is visiting the Wind Cave and the Clearwater Cave via the longboat through the Melinau river.

As usual, we woke up slightly early to explore and do some touristy stuffs around the area.

Stepping out of the hotel, we were greeted by friendly doggies hidden in a nearby local café. All of them are so happy to see us and decided to follow us for a morning walk!

While walking, one of the doggie takes the lead in front of us as if he’s trying to show us around some hidden area🤣 Unfortunately, we did not follow him and head back to hotel as we need to be ready for our next show cave explorations.

Longboat Ride

The longboat ride tour through the Melinau river consists of 3 locations. The first being a small village named Batu Bungan, featuring the local Penan Mulu Handicraft Centre, the second will be the Wind Cave, and our last visit for the day will be the Clearwater Cave.

Before reaching the cave, one need to climb approximately 250 steps of stairs to reach the cave entrance. From there, do expect more stairs while visiting the insides of the cave.

At the cave entrance, you will see a unique and rare one-leaf plant thriving on the rocks above the cave.

Mulu National Park

Visiting all 4 show caves marks the end of our tour. It was a wonderful experience touring around the caves and really grateful that we’re able to visit this well preserved national park which earns it’s place in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The more adventurous can give Mulu Pinnacles a try but requires a high level of fitness degree to climb the Pinnacles.

Free and Easy

After the show caves tour, it is free and easy time for the rest of the day.

Though both of us wanted to go back to the national park to see the infamous “Bat Exodus” again, luck is not on our side as the rain came pouring down later that day where the bats may not be coming out for food hunting. Here are some of the things we do:

Stella Mulu Café

Stella Mulu Café, a small local café which is unique in it’s own way. It is not the typical café we usually go in the city, but it blends very well together with the nature around it.

Raya Night + Drinking Session

That pretty much sums up our last night in Mulu. Though the whole experience in Mulu is nothing short of amazing, we were unable to comprehend that the time flies quickly like a bullet train! That said, we do enjoy every moment we spent, taking in what our mother nature has to offer for us to appreciate, chill and unwind ourselves away from the hustle bustle of our city life. And now, back to reality where we have to pack our bags to get ready for our next adventure in Miri the next day.
