Life Throws You a Cactus To Make You Stronger

Life, as fragile as it could be, may throw you a cactus from any point of your life to make you stronger.

Though our initial plan was to visit the Mossy Forest, we found out that the road leading to Mossy Forest requires a 4×4 to continue the journey as the condition of the road is in a very bad shape. In the end, we decided to make a turn back as our car is not fit for this type of road condition.

Upon some googling, visiting Mossy Forest will now require us to engage with the local tour guide as seen in the article from The Rakyat Post – TRP. In the end, we decided to change our plan by pushing our itinerary one day earlier by doing an impromptu visit to kea farm and cactus valley.

Kea Farm and Cactus Valley

Kea Farm

According to le wife, Kea Farm is not what it used to be anymore. The empty lot opposite the row of shops used to have more stalls selling Cameron’s famous vegetable produce already converted into a paying parking lot leaving only the physical shops by the side of the main road.

This area which used to be crowded with tourists is more relaxed due to the timing we visit Cameron was during the fasting month of Ramadan. That gave us a huge benefit for walking around freely, taking our time to “look see look see”, slowly selecting our potatoes, corns and not to forget, the strawberries! Though the strawberries we brought are on the sour side.

Cactus Valley

Cactus Valley, a checklist by le wife to visit and at the same time, adopt some of the cactuses home to as new addition to our balcony plants.

We are quite amazed that there are so many different types of species of cactus while we stroll along the valley. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on these, I only found out that not all cactuses are pointy as seen in the image gallery below.

For baby cactuses, the price was reasonable and we think it was a great way for us beginners to start small and hopefully, see them grow nicely on our home balcony. The cashier was also very helpful on giving us some guide and advises on how to take good care of the cactuses we brought.

Though as of currently, two of our cactuses planted at home did not survive. So we are left with these for now. Fingers crossed that we do not kill anymore of these 🥶

Our Takeaway?

Overall, our trip was still pretty much memorable, just pushed our itinerary forward by one day. Learned that there are a lot of various cactuses species along the way was quite fun! No more thinking that cactus species only comes with pointy needles which is not 🤣

Lastly, we are really disappointed on the tactics use by the locals for making 4×4 ride compulsory to enter into the entrance of the Mossy Forest without the option to go on our own (More info from The Rakyat Post – TRP). So lets hope that these mandatory 4×4 ride will change to optional in the near future.
